How ethical is this?
This tour is designed for guests who want to see elephants near Chiang Mai without supporting harmful practices. We only work with welfare-focused sanctuaries that prioritise the elephants’ wellbeing, no riding, no performances, and no forced interactions for photos or entertainment.
What happens on the day depends on the sanctuary’s rules and the elephants’ behaviour, but the principle stays the same: respectful distance, calm observation, and listening to the staff. If an activity isn’t appropriate for the elephants that day, it won’t be done, even if it’s something tourists “expect”.

FAQ
Is this a truly ethical elephant experience?
Yes, as we focus on welfare-first sanctuaries where elephants are not used for riding, shows, or forced interaction. The day is built around observation, education, and following the sanctuary’s rules so the elephants’ needs come first.
Can I ride an elephant or see a show?
No. We don’t offer riding or entertainment shows, and we don’t promote experiences that depend on controlling the elephants for tourist activities.
Is there elephant bathing?
No elephant bathing is included as a standard activity. Some sanctuaries allow observation of natural behaviours (like elephants cooling off) from a respectful distance, but we don’t sell “bath with elephants” experiences.
Is there feeding?
We don’t advertise feeding as a guaranteed activity. Some sanctuaries may allow guests to help with food preparation or observe routine care, but anything that happens is guided by staff and depends on what’s appropriate for the elephants that day.
Where is pickup from?
Pickup is from Stamps Backpackers by default. If you’re staying elsewhere, submit your inquiry and we’ll tell you if pickup is possible for your location (and if there’s any surcharge).
What happens after I submit the inquiry?
We confirm availability for your preferred date, the exact pickup time, what’s included, and the final price. You can then confirm (or skip), no payment is taken on the page itself.
What should I wear / bring?
Wear light, comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dusty, and shoes with good grip. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and a change of clothes if you want to be extra comfortable.
Is this suitable for kids?
It can be, but it depends on age, comfort around animals, and the sanctuary’s rules. If you’re travelling with children, mention their age in the inquiry and we’ll recommend the best option.
What’s the cancellation / refund policy?
Cancellation depends on the confirmed option and day. In most cases we can arrange free cancellation with enough notice, but we’ll confirm the exact policy before you commit.
How long is the tour?
Most options are half-day (morning or afternoon) or full-day. Total time includes travel, typically around 1.5 hours each way, plus time at the sanctuary.
